Huntsville Chiropractor :: Dr. Gene Corfman

My Chiropractic Career:

I began my Chiropractic career in 1970 upon graduating Palmer College of Chiropractic. Having practiced in California from then until 1979, we moved to Alabama where our family was active in church, and supporting missions. I was a member of the International Chiropractors Association ICAC, and later was on the Alabama State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. I hold both a California and Alabama license. With two sons in practice in Alabama, we have a family perspective of chiropractic. We see the practice of Chiropractic as an integral part an overall approach to health. Our office cares for all ages of patients from newborns to older folks. We have many families that come in for maintenance care and for strains and sprains.

My Chiropractic Education:

Palmer College of Chiropractic is a special place, because it is the birthplace of Chiropractic... and my two sons and I all graduated there. It was my privilege to present their diplomas at their graduation in the mid 1990's. While in college in Davenport, I was fortunate enough to have worked at John Deere Planter Works and was therefore able to support my education and my family, while my wife worked, as well. I had also attended a junior college near El Centro, California prior to entering Palmer. After Palmer graduation, I took some courses in physiotherapy at the Cleveland College in Los Angeles, then practiced in Modesto and Ceres, California until 1979. At that time, we moved to Florence, Alabama and began a practice that would last 17 years. When Paula (my wife) died, I remarried. Barbara and I moved to the current Huntsville practice in 1999. We have enjoyed these many years treating patients.

Family Life:

With a total of 6 grown children, we enjoy 13 grandchildren and my wife, Barbara spends much of the week taking care of one of them who has special needs. Our children live in Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee and California. We especially look forward to the family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas time. We love to travel and to visit, especially in California. My greatest joy is chiropractic practice and writing about chiropractic and family. Having done some oil and acrylic painting in the past, I want to return to painting in the near future. We've continued our interest in church mission work. As a family, we like playing cards and cooking is a lot of fun for Dr. Corfman and Barbara. Barbara Corfman, RT, RN, CCRN, was an intensive care nurse in California for several years, as well as a Rad tech prior to that.

Healthcare:

As a chiropractic family, we know first-hand the value of better health that comes from regular spine adjustments. I try to get adjusted one to 2 times per month. Dr. Charles and Dr. Paul are great at delivering chiropractic adjustments, as their successful Florence, Alabama offices have so proven.

Dr. Gene Asks some important questions of interest to Huntsville residents - Chiropractor Huntsville Dr. Gene Asks...

What can a chiropractor do for asthma?
Many people think of chiropractic as exclusively dealing with the spine. But I'm interested in the spine because it covers the nervous system. Problems in the spine can produce problems in the organs and tissues controlled by the affected nerves—including those to the lungs and bronchial tubes. Find out how chiropractic care has helped those with asthma.
Is a muscle spasm a cause or an effect?
With the knee-jerk use of muscle relaxers, you'd think it was a cause. But it's an effect. Chiropractors know that bones don't move unless muscles move them. And muscles don't contract unless commanded by the nervous system. That's why your nervous system is the focus of our Huntsville chiropractic practice.
